Reviews of over 60 new comics, Comics in my Mailbox, more!
Here's the fifth issue of Mexican cartoonist, Abraham Díaz's comics anthology, Tetanos. This time around it's co-published by Neoglyphic Media of Bellingham, WA, giving it a bigger footprint en El Norte. Running 56, 7" x 8 1/2" newsprint pages, this issue is filled with boldly drawn comics, printed in both black and white and color – with the extant colors lying almost entirely along the yellow - red end of the spectrum (see cover). Contributors include: Pakito Bolino, Zven Balslev, Roberta Scomparsa, Park Junwoo, Johannes Stahl, Virgil Finlay, Elisa Malo, Dewey Guyen, Leo Quilevreaux, Kusozu, Olaf Ladousse, Abraham Diaz, Pepa Prieto Puy and Marti.
Most of the comics herein are wordless, and one is in English, so language is little to no barrier to entry, with the exception of the brief interview with comics maker, Marti (Cabbie), which is printed en Español. Y los lectores españoles pueden alegrarse de poder leer por fin “El hombre detrás de la pluma: Finlay”, de Ken Feduniewicz, en la traducción de Mafer Lartigue de este artículo que se publicó originalmente en Mediascene allá por 1979.
