In this 80-page wordless comics story, Sam Alden mixes media, combining his taught black line drawing with a fluid water color to create a dynamic non-stop action sequence of kill-or-be-killed. It is akin to an æstheticized video game, but one that takes you inside the psyches of the players, that provides the reader with a sense of what it would be like to actually be inhabiting that posited artificial world in a way that no actual video game ever could; it reveals the viscera that make the experience visceral, as it were. It is a work to first be raced through for the excitement of the narrative experience, and then to be pored over for the various enrichments on offer -- the artistic value-adds -- and then to be studied, to figure out how it was all accomplished.
