New Regime Progress Report

Posted on 17 November 21:11 (over 1 year ago)

OK, Doomed Planet Comics is now up and running on the third floor at 3138 Dobson Street!  Copacetic shop hours are being maintained (and are listed above, on the right).

Here at The Copacetic Comics Company, unpacking, sorting and organizing the stock in its new environs are dominating the days.  Progress is being made, resulting in the pull rate improving and order processing speeding up. Posting the new arrivals on the site is starting to pick up as well.  Thank you for your patience.

The latest arrivals include the new issues of Love and Rockets, Tongues and PeePee PooPoo, along with the final issue of Ginseng Roots and a nice batch of books from The Mansion Press in Paris!

AND:  As the unpacking of the move proceeds, items that were previously unlisted and/or thought to have been out of stock, are turning up, one after another, including some surprising items.  So, we have created a new category – Discovered During the Move! –  and are tagging all of these new and/or reactivated listings.  We have only just begun posting them, so please check back to see what else we discover.  Also, please note:  most of these items are only single copies.

TRANSITION – UPDATE

Posted on 24 October 09:10 (over 1 year ago)

The Doomed Planet era has dawned up on the third floor at 3138 Dobson Street!

Doomed Planet Comics is now up and running.  Please follow Doomed Planet Comics on Instagram to keep up with the opening as it unrolls and, of course, to learn about all future news concerning the shop on the third floor at 3138 Dobson Street.  Doomed Planet Comics will continue to operate with the same Copacetic Comics hours.  The hours may change in the future.  If/when they do, we will let you know.

Internet Customers, PLEASE NOTE:  The transportation of the massive volume of goods from the third floor at 3138 to the new webstore set-up and ancillary storage spaces has been largely accomplished – but now comes the hard part:  organizing it all!  And so, while we now have many items immediately to hand, we still have a ways to go.  Thus, some/many orders placed over this website continue to be likely to experience delays and/or partial shipments (the available part of the order shipping first, with the rest following in a subsequent shipment).  There may also be outages in those cases where we are unable to locate stock in a timely manner. Please bear with us during this transition. Thank you for your patience!

Pittsburgh – Softcover Edition Release Party with Frank Santoro: Saturday October 21

Posted on 17 October 13:10 (over 1 year ago)

THIS Saturday, October 21,  from 6pm to 8pm, we will host the launch party for the softcover edition of the Frank Santoro masterpiece, Pittsburgh.

It will be the last in-store event of the Copacetic era!  But, not to worry!  We’re sure there will plenty more special in-store events to come as the Doom Planet era dawns...

M.S. Harkness at Copacetic – Thursday, October 12

Posted on 03 October 20:10 (over 1 year ago)
Yes, that's right, M.S. Harkness will be hitting Copacetic HQ – on the third floor at 3138 Dobson Street – on Thursday, October 12, from 6pm to 8pm!  She’ll be here to promote her upcoming, 264 page graphic novel from Fantagraphics, Time Under Tension.  The street date for this book is October 24, but a case of copies is now on their way to Copacetic and will be on hand for the event – along with plenty of other work by M.S. Harkness, including the brand new Poison Pill anthology that she edited and published and which just premiered at CXC.

––––––––––––––––––––

Also, The changeover taking place on the third floor at 3138 Dobson street that was announced in our last post is proceeding apace, and it now looks like the last day of Copacetic at 3138 Dobson will be Sunday, October 29, 2023 (and it looks like the first day of Doomed Planet will be Friday, November 3, give or take a day in either direction; it’s not nailed down yet).

So, as a result, when, on Saturday, October 21, also from 6pm to 8pm, we will host the launch party for the soon-to-be-released softcover edition the Frank Santoro masterpiece, Pittsburgh, it will be the last in-store event of the Copacetic era!  But, not to worry!  We’re sure there will plenty more special in-store events to come as the Doom Planet era dawns...

***IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT***

Posted on 26 August 19:08 (almost 2 years ago)
On or about November 1, 2023, The Copacetic Comics Company will be transitioning to an internet / web store / mail order business – BUT the shop on the third floor of 3138 Dobson Street will continue!  Longtime Copacetic stalwart Bill Wehmann, who has been helping out at the shop on a regular basis for over ten years, will be taking the helm.  Many a Copacetic customer will already have encountered Bill W. as he has piloted the shop on many days of its operation.  He is also a comics maker whose work has been sold at Copacetic for years, so some customers may know him through his work, as well.

After the changeover, the shop at 3138 Dobson St., third floor, will be called Doomed Planet Comics, and the plan is to make the transition as seamless as possible.  Doomed Planet Comics will be continuing with largely the same comics stock currently in place at Copacetic, and, going forward, it will work to maintain the same focus on creator-owned, small press, self-published, handmade and locally produced comics.  A similar approach will be taken to the shop’s central selection of prose works (books) in fiction, non-fiction, art, poetry, classics and more.  On the other hand, as Copacetic’s sales of both CDs and DVDs have been vanishingly small for a number of years now, they will be largely phased out – making room for new items likely to be of greater interest to both current Copacetic and future Doomed Planet customers.  And Book Alley will be taking on somewhat of a new, as-yet-to-be-determined flavor.

Crucially, Doomed Planet Comics will also continue to uphold the communicative, customer-centric ethos that has long guided Copacetic.  So, whether you’re looking for a particular item, a recommendation for yourself or someone else, would like to know whether or not an upcoming release will be stocked, recommend something that you think would be a good fit for the shop and/or place a special order, customers will be able to do the same in the future as they have in the past:  just talk with Bill.  While the person responding will be different, the desire to serve the customer to the best of their ability will be the same.

Users of this website should notice little to no difference, as online interactions with Copacetic will continue as before, with no changes planned at this time, although the order fulfillment schedule is likely to shift somewhat during and after the transition.

Finally, Copacetic and Doomed Planet will be in regular communication with one another, and I plan to at least occasionally come in to run the shop for the day, to help Bill W. out, in turn.  I’ll still be around for awhile longer yet.  Thank you for all the years of supporting and participating in the Copacetic enterprise – and to those of you who have been to the shop in person, thanks for all the great conversations!
