Yes, this is a graphic novel tackling the same theme as the Dan Clowes classic, “Art School Confidential,” but it’s a different kettle of fish.  Jamie Coe is a denizen of the UK, currently living and working in London, after graduating from Central Saint Martins (yes, an art school) with a BA in Graphic Design.  Art Schooled is a full length, full color, hardcover graphic novel.  Art Schooled is imbued with a rich color palette, revealing that Coe perhaps had perhaps less scorn for the academy than Clowes, and so has developed a more painterly æsthetic as a result.  Regardless of all of the above, there is much here that ill resonate with and be enjoyed by anyone who has spent time in the perhaps-not-so-hallowed halls of an academy devoted to imparting the grand tradition of the arts.
