Funky Town is a modern fairy tale, of sorts. Mixing old and new, Mathilde Van Gheluwe's 132 page graphic novel presents the stresses and traumas of a pre-adolescent girl as she confronts and navigates the world of appetites and emotions – with Baba Yaga for a mother! Beautiful pencil art throughout. You can get a peek at a few pages which accompany Philippe Leblanc's review at The Beat, HERE (but beware of spoilers in the text of the review itself).
