Set in the rural Spain of the early 20th century, the US desert southwest of the early 21st century, and elsewhere and elsewhen, Totem is a hauntingly evocative graphic novel of life and the afterlife, relationships in the moment and through the ages.  Laura Perez's artwork work well in revealing the tentative connections between perceptions and realities to show the porous borders between person and place.
