Following in the sizeable wake left by Fantagraphics' Complete Peanuts, this big block of a book is now nestled in a nook on our shelves. This 624-page, B&W, 5 1/2” x 6 1/4” hardcover volume also published by the fine folks at Fantagraphics Books collects the entirety of the first two calendar years of Dennis the Menace strips -- 1951 & 1952 -- 588 in all. Each is printed full-size (and then some) one to a page, on a nice off-white paper stock. Here's what one fan has to say: "Dennis has all the qualities of a great comic strip character: innocence, curiosity, and an anarchic free spirit.... (H)is adventures were recorded in the most beautiful pen and brush line in the history of comics -- a line that danced gracefully on the page. A medley of techniques (cross-hatching, heavy brush, silhouettes) merged seamlessly. Each meticulously designed panel was a masterpiece of composition." -- Patrick McDonnell, creator and author of Mutts™.
