Spy Magazine was innovative, graphically inventive and smart.  On the other hand, when all is said and done, it just might be the merciless needling that Spy subjected Donald Trump to that pushed him over the edge.  The "we're smarter than you" snark of which Spy was the undisputed master during these "Funny Years" – pretty much (but not exactly) 1986 to 1992 – took no prisoners, and Trump – along with many, many others, of course – was hung out to dry.

Even when this book was originally published in 2006, the editors couldn't resist the opportunity to continue to antagonize Trump by repurposing his statement about the magazine from its glory days – "It's a piece of garbage." – as a back cover blurb, under the heading "Then", below a blurb from David Eggers that reads, in part, "It's pretty safe to say that Spy was the most influential magazine of the 1980s... It was cruel, brilliant, beautifully written and perfectly designed – and feared by all," under the heading "Now."

While we were digging through the archives we discovered an unopened case of this massive hardcover coffee table book (and it was heavy)!
