Marry Me a Little is cartoonist, Rob Kirby's memoir of marrying his longtime partner, John, shortly after Minnesota legalized same-sex marriage in 2013, two years before the Supreme Court decision legalizing it nationwide. In 100 pages of clear and concise comics, this graphic novel explores the institution of marriage, alongside its traditions and ritual aspects, all within the context of the evolution of gay marriage both within the institution of marriage and society as a whole, as well as its political aspects. It accomplishes the harder-than-it-looks feat of revealing the big picture within an up close and personal accounting that is simultaneously heartfelt and matter-of-fact. While there is plenty of history and cultural observation to be had in its pages, Marry Me a Little is, at its core and most of all, a love story.
