The 1940's introduced the Kenton Era with an impact seldom heard in music. After introducing the challenging new sounds of "Artistry in Rhythm", Kenton presented "Progressive Jazz", a dramatic transition in Kenton's turbulent musical career. Here are the extensive highlights of the first ten years of the Kenton Era.

Discographical Note : Capitol Transcription Sessions were entirely separate from the phono dates. Titles were not awarded individual master numbers. Instead the "matrix" identifies the 16" lacquer and the number after the dash the track on that lacquer. Thus ET 292-2 ?? means "Begin The Beguine", was recorded on lacquer number 429, and the chosen take is the second track on that lacquer. More titles were recorded per session, because the same level of perfection was not demanded on phone dates, since transcription recordings were not intended for public sale, though in Kenton's case the difference in quality is minimal.
