Fats' style had a direct influence on many trumpeters. Clifford Brown idolised him. Lee Morgan named him as his favourite all-time trumpeter. The style that Fats' developed also had major influence on the development in style of numerous others. Soon after Fats' death, Dizzy Gillespie said, "Fats was the best all round trumpeter of them all. He had everything a trumpeter should have: tone, ideas, execution and reading ability." This 4CD box set is the story of his career. It features performances from other greats including Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Coleman Hawkins, Illinois Jacquet, Billy Eckstine and Howard McGhee.
