There is mass of remarkable, and remarkably varied music to be heard on these four CDs. All of it is either masterminded by, or reflects the input of, the great Charles Mingus. It covers his early work up until 1953, which most fans would agree was the turning point for him to begin much more mature work. However, it is importamt for any fan to experience this work, as you can begin to hear several undeniable hints of what he would go on to create.
