As you can tell by the title, this is the follow-up volume to Drew Friedman's Heroes of the Comics. Here in the pages of this hefty, oversize, hardcover volume, you will find another 100 full-color portraits of the legends of American comic books; the people who built the industry. While, as you would think, artists predominate, you'll also find writers, editors and publishers among those portrayed. Each portrait is accompanied by a concise one-page career biography, which definitely come in handy, as there are some of the less well known figures here, and it is great to learn more about them.
Included this time around are John Buscema, John Romita, Ross Andru, Russ Manning, Grey Morrow, Irv Novick, Gladys Parker, Harry Donenfeld, "Busy" Arnold and many, many more. Also included are some very well known writers that most readers don't know worked for and/or started out in comics, like Ray Bradbury, Mickey Spillane and Patricia Highsmith.
Forward by comics historian, Karen Green,
As Dan Clowes states, "Don't bother with the history books. Friedman tells the entire story of comics in his remarkable – and oddly inspiring – series of portraits."
