Cram Books editor, publisher – and printer! – Andrew Alexander steps out from behind the curtain with this jam-packed 52-page hand-printed risograph collection of his own comics.  After a brief introductory strip on the inside front cover, the issue opens with its longest piece, the 25 page "The Candidates".  This complex, multi-level tale is, superficially, about the world of competitive chess, but in the depths beneath there lurk the stresses of family drama, and the anxieties so generated.  Following that is "Curio Painter in: Peter Saul's Beckmann's a Hard Day's Night", which is not only this issue's only full color work, but it also employs a vertical spread, and so requires the book to be read at a 90° angle; this off-kilter tale involves the nexus of drinking, painting, and the televised screening of an alternate reality version of "A Hard Day's Night" in which The Beatles are cast as terrorists.  "The Editor Is In" comes next, in which Alexander cleverly employs the diary comics form to present a roman à clef a screwball comedy version of a small press comics editor's life.  Then a two page sketchbook comic on teaching leads to the issue's pièce de résistance, "The Game of Shame" in which America's national pastime – baseball – is employed like a map overlay to navigate the formation of American identity.  The issue closes out with a fun, frantic, high energy stream of comics story-telling, "Friend of a Friend", which averages over 25 panels per page!
